Caveland Church was founded on July 5th, 1994. Sammy Hunt was elected as the Senior Pastor. The church began meeting in a tobacco barn in Barren County with 33 members. On September 4th, 1994 the church leased a storefront on Broadway in Cave City and on January 8th, 1995, Caveland purchased two acres of land at the edge of Cave City on highway 90 for future building. The land was paid for in full on August 15th, 1995.

On June 25, 1995 Caveland Church leased an abandoned church building and grew to approximately one hundred people.  On May 25, 1997 Caveland purchased an additional acre of land for future building, making a total of three acres. In 1999, Caveland Church began the groundwork for a new sanctuary; that same year, the leased building was placed on the market. Caveland purchased the church building, despite already starting the groundwork on the purchased land.

In December of 1999, Pastor Sammy Hunt accepted the pastorate of another church. After his resignation, on Jan 16th, 2000, Pastor Chad Hunt (his eldest son) was elected as Senior Pastor. The church continued to grow in membership, and soon the church averaged over one hundred twenty people each Sunday. During this growth period, Caveland eventually purchased approximately ten acres of land. In 2006, Caveland built a new sanctuary and presently reaches over five hundred people in average attendance, in a community of sixteen hundred people. God is good...all the time.

-The Holy Bible is the true and only word of God, written by men inspired by the Holy Spirit (2 Tim. 3:15-17, 2 Pet. 1:19-21).

-God is the Creator of heaven and earth, and all living things (Gen. 1, Gen. 2:7).

-The Lord God of Heaven is the only God (1 Corth. 8: 6).

-Our God consist of three persons (Trinity), The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit (1 John 5:7, Mt. 28:19, Jn. 14:26).

-Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven; there is no other way. (Jn. 14:6)

-Salvation is obtained only through faith in Jesus Christ, by grace and not by our works (Eph. 2: 8-10).

-Jesus Christ freely gave His life on the cross; He arose on the third day, and is now in Heaven with the Father. The blood of Jesus Christ covers all sins (Acts 2: 22-27, Jn. 10: 17-18).

-Those who believe and trust in Jesus Christ are eternally secure in their salvation. (Eph. 1:13, James 1:17, Jn. 10: 29, Rom. 8: 38-39)

-The New Testament church is made up of born-again believers, directed by the Holy Spirit, and lead by the pastor and church leadership (1 Corth. 12:7, 11, John 3: 3, 1 Tim. 3: 1-5).

-The Gifts of the Spirit are available to all believers at the Holy Spirit’s discretion, and are to be used in an orderly fashion for the edifying of the church. (1 Corth. 12-14, Eph. 4:11-13)

-The Lord’s Supper and Baptism are the two ordinances of the church.  (1 Corth. 11: 23-26)

-Marriage- We believe that marriage is between one man and one woman; homosexual or bi-sexual relationships are an abomination to the Lord and against the Word of God. (Romans 1:25-29)

-Divorce- We believe that divorce was not the intent of God in the beginning (Mt. 19:8), but was instituted during the time of Moses, and allowed reluctantly by Jesus Himself (Mt. 5:32, Mt. 19:9). While it is better to reconcile if possible, divorce sometimes is an unavoidable consequence of spousal behavior and the sins of mankind. Re-marriage, consequently, is preferred to living in or committing adultery.

-The apostle Paul recognized this and other concerns in First Corinthians chapter 7. Also, Paul spoke strongly against the undesirable practice of polygamy during his time, and forbade it (verse 2). Because Paul addressed this problem here, we can conclude that his listing of the qualifications of a bishop and deacon (1 Timothy 3:2,12 and Titus 1:6) as requiring a candidate for these offices to have only one wife reflects his (and God’s) position regarding the practice of polygamy.

-A person who has been divorced has as much opportunity to serve God as one who has never been married or divorced before. We believe that our Father in Heaven forgives all sin when we come to Him with a true repentive heart. True repentance shows fruit of change and commitment, and that is what God is interested in.
